You may have noticed that I have been extremely MIA over the last month. First, I took time off from Substack for our honeymoon, and after one quick newsletter, I disappeared again. After 9 months of posting 2+ times a day every.single.day. on TikTok, I even took a hiatus there.
I do have a good excuse: we’re MOVING!
Part of why this has affected my online presence so much is that it came on completely unexpectedly and it has been go-go-go ever since. Out of nowhere, we decided to tour a “coming soon” home at 8am on a Thursday morning. We fell in love, scheduled a pre-inspection for 5pm that afternoon, and we had our offer accepted by 10pm.
What followed was a serious of second-guessing our decision mixed with complete joy and excitement for the future. We are not in a position to own two homes, which meant we needed to get our current condo in Adams Morgan in shape for sale. This all had to happen within 3 days, as we were leaving for a long-scheduled beach trip to OBX mid-week.
We returned from the beach and had photos taken of our current place the next day, and listed it the day after. It’s been a whirlwind!
A little bit of behind the scenes on our thought process. If I’m being totally honest, I thought we’d stay in our current home for the next 5+ years, but we have been talking for sometime about what our next step might be. A penthouse in AdMo? A row home on the Hill? A house in Bethesda?
When our new home came on the market, it fit our bill. It is in walking distance to downtown Bethesda and the metro so we won’t be thrown right into suburbia. My husband grew up in Bethesda and I used to work there, so we love the area. I’m also really excited about being closer to some of our friends with children. Backyard BBQs galore!
I absolutely love city living, but it comes with its share of tradeoffs. I’m going to miss 90% of our life here, but I’m also really excited to not be yelled at first thing in the morning on my way to a 7am workout, or not hear cars honking on a peaceful evening. I’ve always found that those things aren’t worth us moving out for, but it will definitely be nice to have some peace and quiet. Y’all, we have GRASS!
I’m excited for grilling on summer nights, adding outdoor heaters to our screened in porch for true indoor-outdoor living, and flexing my interior design chops to make the place our own. I was just comparing the photos from our condo when we saw it listed vs. now and it made me so excited for all of the ways we’ll make it ours.
And not to worry: I will still be coming to DC multiple times a week for work and just as often for dining and drinking. So much of my personality is wrapped up in DC’s restaurant culture, and it’s a hobby my husband and I share. My content won’t be changing, except for the added bonus of me becoming a homemaker.
Cheers to the next chapter! Thanks for coming on the journey.
